An old lady from Norwich did say
That she went to Oaxaca to play.
Seeds and tubers galore,
Agua, sol, y amor,
And now she grows dahlias all day.

I went to see those bright flowers
Swan Island used all of its powers!
From My Hero to Edison
There were none I would jettison
These dahlias I’d quickly devour!
Holly Hill has some wonderful plants
I won’t walk there, I’ll prance!
Black Beauty is my fave
The rest I would save
If ever they were attacked by some ants

A small garden is just so constrictive
But dahlia are just so addictive
When I plant them in May
My friends always say
Your dahlias are so distinctive
When I get to the gardening section
I never need ask the direction
To the tubers I head
I won't be mis-lead
Since dahlias are sure perfection
Gophers and slugs are pests we all fear
In our garden they come way too near
Viruses, bugs and mites
Cause many more frights
At least dahlias aren't eaten by deer
Dirty limericks are not welcome here
Good taste and and fine chatter are near
Nice snacks we are eating
At our monthly meeting
Our dahlias bring us good cheer

This year’s planting with no delay,
Just a garden of Cafe au Lait.
Leaving plenty of room,
For creamy white blooms…
Egad! a sea of Sorbet.
Dahliaphiles are a curious breed,
Inquisitiveness is part of the creed.
They cultivate their plot,
Then see what they’ve got,
It’s all just fulfilling a need.
Allen would like us to think
That he’s discovered the secret link,
If he crosses a red
With a full white from Ted,
His dahlia is sure to be pink.
Mark’s show blooms are really quite nice,
Ted's hybrids are sugar and spice,
But like all the beginners
Who are looking for winners,
My dahlias just barely suffice
